Hello SQPC Skydivers,
Happy New Year! Its been a great summer of skydiving so far for SQPC, and lots of positive change keeping the management committee very busy.
Your current committee:
Ben Nordkamp: Chairperson
Mike Dyer: Vice Chairperson (and APF Board Representative)
Luke Oliver: Treasurer
Matt Blaiklock: Acting Area Coach
Lea Critchley: Administrator and Secretary
is working through the changes and dealing with issues as they arise. The challenges are great; but every change represents skydiving coming of age as a sport in this country. A sleeker and more professional national structure of sporting management is emerging that will bring with it growth and greater opportunity in all realms of training, recreational, competitive or professional skydiving. There is benefit for everyone.
SQPC 2016 in Review
At year’s end SQPC provided direct support to 129 members in the form of funding support or rebates, subsidised 38 coaching events or funded activities and was represented by 13 members at World Championships or international events. Full reporting of these achievements will be at the Annual General Meeting
SQPC 2017 Coaching and Organising Initiative
Our goal to have coached skydiving opportunities every weekend this year is off to a great start with 4 coaching events already acquitted and paid, four more coming in January, and 30 events already on the SQPC calendar for 2017. Huge thanks to our 2017 organisers and coaches so far: Tommer and Benoit organising and coaching freefly, angles and wingsuits at Skydive Byron Bay, Full Tilt and Keith preparing for Nationals, Mossy coaching CP and canopy control at Toogs, Ben and Martin coaching and organising big ways and starcrests, Koppel at Mee Loft with Monthly Maintenance workshops, the Coast to Coast crew with first stop of the tour bus at Toogoolawah (don’t forget to apply for a rebate on your B-rel slots if you where one of the B-Rel students that went hard at Coast to Coast). If you want to organise or coach, please come to the AGM. We will review the initiative so far and listen to feedback from our organisers, and push forward into the second quarter.
Queensland Parachuting Association Facebook page
SQPC and NQPC work hand in hand with our independent Queensland peak body QPA, to co-operate with the Queensland State Government and recognise their state based sporting initiatives. The SQPC public facebook page has now become “Queensland Parachuting Association: NQPC and SQPC” to broaden and promote our skydiving opportunities state-wide. The page is frequently updated with skydiving news and events. We welcome content and feedback, so please have a look at our page, and like and share anything of interest.
Queensland Parachuting Association Website
Our current website www.sqpc.org.au will soon become linked to a new website for QPA to connect all Queensland based APF members with Queensland State Government sports funding initiatives. This follows the success of the QPA grant application to the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing 2017-2019 State Development Programme. We have new KPI’s to meet and have plenty of ideas about how to use the state government’s generous funding to grow and sustain skydiving in Queensland. Most of our coach and event funding comes from this source, along with the highly successful $50 Stage 9 AFF rebate, which will continue. Great news! Our support for B-rel students will increase: from January 1st, the Certificate B rebate will now be $100. Apply here: 2017 SQPC Members Funding More information will follow as QPA’s new website comes on-line.
SQPC AGM 21st February, 2017 at 7pm, Springwood Towers Hotel, 9 Murrajong Rd Springwood.
Our first AGM as an Area Council and committee of the APF, is fast approaching and the time to think about our 2017 elections is now. All positions as per the APF “Terms of Delegation for Councils” will be up for election, however, with APF permission, SQPC will continue its current management committee structure as it appears above. Part of SQPC’s strategic plan is strong succession planning, so we welcome new office bearers! Get in touch if you are interested in nominating for a volunteer role on the committee, if you are elected we’ll provide training and support to ease you into the role. Sports management, business, accounting, IT and technical skills are particularly welcome, but all interested parties will be encouraged to get involved. We need and value volunteers.
In contrast to other years, under the Terms of Delegation, only club delegates can vote in the elections, so contact and lobby your club delegates with your choices. The club with which you are registered is on the back of your APF card. Current club delegates can be seen here: http://www.sqpc.org.au/clubs-1/delegates
Sincere thanks to the Australian Parachute Federation for on-going support of local initiatives and the work of area councils, and for the generous support of events through the APF Development Fund or “Fi-Fund”
It’s going to be a big year!
